Port Mansfield Inshore Fishing Action: Top Species and Tips for May 2025
Laguna Madre - Willacy, TX
Inshore fishing in Port Mansfield, Texas, is thriving as we move into the summer season. Anglers are having great success targeting Redfish and Speckled Trout in the shallow flats and grass beds, particularly on the east side of the bay. The recent influx of freshwater runoff has elevated water levels, concentrating fish along the sand and grass lines, making them more accessible. Soft plastics, especially in natural colors like "sand ninja," are proving effective for targeting these species.
The topwater bite has been excellent, with anglers reporting success using surface lures to attract larger trout. These conditions are ideal for sight casting and wade fishing, offering a thrilling and productive experience. While Flounder catches remain sporadic, there are still a few being landed around deeper channels and structure. Additionally, the Sheepshead bite has been steady, with these hard-fighting fish being caught near bridge pilings and submerged structures using fiddler crabs.
Weather conditions have been favorable, with mild temperatures and manageable winds, providing optimal conditions for inshore fishing. As we move further into May, expect the fishing action to intensify, with more species becoming active and providing exciting opportunities for anglers.
Stay tuned for next week's fishing report to ensure you're prepared for your next Port Mansfield adventure!
